Concert Band (6) rehearses Monday-Friday during Period 5 . Symphonic Band (7/8) rehearses Monday-Friday during Period 3.
Can I be in Band and Chorus?
No. Students can only be in one ensemble.
What are sectionals? When are they? Do I have to go?
Sectionals are 50 minute classes that consist of a small group of students. During sectionals, students have the opportunity to work on tone, technique, and music on a more individualized basis. Sectionals are held once a week. Sectionals will rotate so the students does not get pulled out of the same class more than twice in a quarter. There will always be a sectional schedule posted on the band room door. Sectionals are mandatory and all band students must attend. It is part of their band grade. Students will be excused from sectionals only if they have a test or are absent. Students must inform me if they will need to miss sectionals because of a test.
Do I have to go to the band concerts and the county performance?
Students must attend all concerts and county performance. Attendance to all three is required in order to participate in the band program.
What are the band expectations?
Students will be expected to: attend every rehearsal, attend sectionals, be prepared for class, follow instructions, PRACTICE, respect students and classroom, and have a positive attitude!
What should I remember during rehearsals and sectionals?
The podium means silence! Sit with good posture. No gum or food is permitted in the classroom. Never use another person's instrument. Be sure to label your instrument case and folder.
I lost my mouthpiece/damaged my instrument and it is school property. What happens now?
Students who lose a mouthpiece or damage a school instrument will be responsible for replacement or repairs. Students should contact the band teacher as soon as possible for further instructions.
Do I need to buy a method book? Where can I buy one?
Every band student (6,7, or 8) should purchase the Accent on Achievement Book 2 (Red).
Will there be an audition for seat placement?
Seat placement will be given based on ability and the needs of the ensemble. The director's decisions in this matter are final. Students will be evaluated during rehearsals and sectionals.
Do I have to take private lessons?
Private lessons provide one on one attention with a private instructor who specializes on a certain instrument. They are always strongly encouraged. Students who take private lessons have a better band experience.
Do I have to practice everyday?
Practice of your instrument is the equivalent of homework. You should practice your instrument every day you have homework.
How do I dress for the concert and other performances?
